The coverage of Dongsha Atoll National Park includes 22.2 kilometers from Dongsha atoll and the surrounding atoll, with a total area of 3,536 square kilometres. Dongsha atoll composed mainly of a saline lake and coral reefs measuring 25 square kilometers in diameter, and a 1.74-square kilometer portion of the reef is exposed on the surface, which is Dongsha island. The establishment of the Dongsha Atoll National Park shall make Dongsha island part of the international marine conservation activities as well as the marine biology studies. The result of the future conservation shall help Dongsha atoll to be included in UNESCO World Heritage.
