The Executive Yuan said: "Marine National Park Headquarters, National Park Service, Ministry of the Interior shall coordinate with the Dongsha Atoll and other possible established island or marine national parks such as Green Island, the Northern Three Isles and Penghu Islands in order to achieve effective integrated management." In addition to ongoing management of Dongsha Atoll National Park and promotion for the announcement of the South Penghu Marine National Park establishment project, our department also implements resource survey, research and planning for other potential marine national parks in Taiwan. By doing these, we expect to construct a marine national park system properly, expand Taiwan’s marine protection area and accomplish international liabilities for marine conservation. -
Ecological resources conservation and restoration planning
Continue to promote the investigation, research and monitoring works of natural and human resources in Dongsha Atoll National Park and the South Penghu Marine National Park, establish long-term ecological research network and strengthen marine biodiversity conservation. By creating bioremediation demonstration areas and systemically implementing artificial restoration of native species, we hope to restore important ecological populations which had been damaged or endangered. -
International marine research cooperation and local participation programs
To facilitate international cooperation opportunities, invite domestic and international research groups to perform marine-related studies, we develop an international marine research station to enhance the research energy of marine science, highlight our nation’s efforts on marine resources conservation and set a model for the peaceful development and regional cooperation in the South China Sea. The foundation of sustainable operation and management of National Parks should be built on the cooperation and consensus between resource managers and people. By hosting consultations and the involvement of interested party, we hope to institute participative management mechanism and achieve the vision of local sustainable operation and development. -
Upgrade environmental conservation concepts and talent development plans
Accumulate long-term monitoring and research data from Dongsha Atoll National Park, the South Penghu Marine National Park and other islands natural resources in Taiwan to not only promote scientific studies, but provide programming themes for environmental education and future eco-tourism development. The Headquarters will also promote marine environmental education and encourage compatriots to approach and care of the ocean. We expect to create learning environment for cultivating environmental education and docent talents, to host promotional and experiencing activities for cultivating conservation talents, to implement long-term ecological research for cultivating marine technology talents. -
Promotion of eco-tourism activities and recreation resources planning
Based on the principles of marine biodiversity conservation, community participation, self-management and sustainable utilization of natural resources, we design suitable activities for local conditions and launched a “National Park Eco-Tourism” project for environmental obligation, natural environment conservation and local resident cooperation purposes. In order to maintain recreational quality and environmental safety within national park areas and develop national park’s exclusive recreational resources, recreational resources management include eco-tourism resources integration and preparation, applied research and monitoring and designs for recreational system classification, etc.
